# How background music works

You pick background music when you create a video. The **Background Music** setting has three options: **Auto**, **Choose**, and **None**. Auto is on by default and picks a track that fits your video's mood. Background music added this way does not use your credits.

## Does Background Video keep the clip's sound?

No. The selected clip is muted. Your voiceover and the music you choose play over it. Pick **None** to keep only the voiceover.

## What does Auto music do?

With **Auto**, we read your script and match it to a music mood, like dark, suspenseful, happy, calm, or epic. We then add a track from our music library that fits that mood and energy. There are 25 moods, so horror stories, kids' facts, motivation, and finance videos each get music that fits.

You do not pay credits for auto music. It is part of video generation.

## How do I pick my own track?

1. On the video creation form, find **Background Music**.
2. Click **Choose**.

3. Pick a track from the list. You can preview tracks before you pick one.

Click **None** if you want no music at all.

## Can I change the music after the video is generated?

Yes, but only in the video editor. There is no music setting on a finished video outside the editor.

1. Go to the [videos list](https://app.aituber.app/dashboard/videos).
2. Click **Edit** on the video. It opens in the editor.
3. Select the background music on the timeline.
4. Click **Change track** and pick a different track from the library.

## Can I make the music quieter or louder?

Yes. You can set volume when you set up Autopilot, and you can change it later in the editor.

### On Autopilot

1. Open the Autopilot and go to **Looks and sounds**.
2. Find **Background Music**.
3. Keep **Auto** or **Choose track** selected. The volume control is hidden if you pick **None**.
4. Move **Music Volume**. Quiet sits further under the voice. Loud brings the music forward.

New Autopilots start at 30 percent. That keeps the music under the voice. Your change applies to every video that Autopilot makes after you save.

### On a finished video

The volume control is in the editor.

1. Go to the [videos list](https://app.aituber.app/dashboard/videos).
2. Click **Edit** on the video.
3. Open the **Music** tab. On a computer it is on the right side of the editor. On a phone it is at the bottom.
4. Move the volume control for the background track.

The music starts at 30 percent. It is set low on purpose, so it stays under the voice. Your change applies to that video.

## Can I generate new music or sound effects?

Yes, in the editor's Music panel. These generations cost credits:

| Generation | Cost |
|---|---|
| Music track | 38 credits per minute, minimum 5 credits |
| Sound effect | 30 credits per generation |

Describe the music or sound you want, set the length, and generate. The result lands in your project media, ready to drop on the timeline.
